Halfway House

I have joked on many occasion that we live in a halfway house -- not the kind you're thinking, but the kind full of halfway finished projects.  Since starting construction on our house 3 1/2 years ago life has happened and things have stalled.  Not at all to take away from what we have accomplished; our house is very livable and when we purchased it, it was completely uninhabitable!  We've been knocking off some projects left & right as the baby's due date nears and our to-do list is dwindling (yay!).  For the next few weeks we have the following plan:

Saturday morning: paint dining room ceiling
Saturday afternoon: attend wedding of a good friend
Sunday: second coat on dining room walls & ceiling
Monday or Tuesday: installation of built-in buffet in dining room
~~~during the week arrange dining room, have rocking chair reupholstered & paint baby’s room~~~
Next Weekend - 2/26-27: Finish Painting Baby’s room; Finish Downstairs family room; Finish Dining Room
~~~during the week have towel racks for guest bathroom plated~~~
3/5-6: Saturday: Niece's BIRTHDAY PARTY; Sunday: Baby's Room (enough for sister-in-law to use)
~~~during the week order curtains & curtain rods for living room~~~
Wed: company arrives
Sat: BABY SHOWER
Mon: company departs
~~~during the week take lamps to repair shop~~~
3/19-20: LittleA’s closet
3/26-27: LittleA’s closet, Baby’s room
4/2-3:  Baby’s room
4/9-10:  Baby’s room / reorganize boxes/garage

~~~Be Prepared for Baby anytime~~~
4/16-17: reorganize boxes/garage
4/23-24: EASTER, last minute cleaning/arranging
~~~Mon: Hubby's bday~~~
4/30-5/1: DUE DATE (be prepared anywhere from April 15 - May 15)

There appears to be no end in sight, but at least outlining what needs to be done enables us to tackle it one project at a time (as budget allows). We either hire out the work or my hubby does it so we're restricted on funds or his available time. It might be another 3 1/2 years, but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel!

First of all,,.....yikes! That sounds like a decade of projects :)
Second of all, question ~ You can tolerate paint? Do you buy a special kind? A special kind of caulking too? When we moved in here, the painting was done 3 months before we moved in...Don't think we will have that luxury in the next place. We used Sherwin Williams "Harmony" paint here which worked well.
Good luck on your ventures...it seems there is always something to do.

WOW, you've really jumped into your nesting mode w/both feet, haven't you?! Sounds like it'll be really nice. :)

Renee~ We use Benjamin Moore Natura paint, which is no VOC. Even still, I can't do the painting. We open all the windows & set up the hepa filter while I stay cocooned in the bedroom. We also have a whole-house hepa filter that we'll fun constantly for a few days, so everything seems to clear within a day & so far hasn't been a big problem.

Jess - some of it is definitely nesting and some of it is an excuse to finally get some things done that have been driving me CRAZY since we moved in. It still seems like we'll be in a halfway house for many years, but at least some of the 'domino projects' (projects that have to occur before others can take place) will finally start knocking down the dominoes.

Good luck with all your projects! My main goal after moving in is to just get through a few boxes now and then and try to keep the house clean!
